The Epilogue

Well, here’s the thing. It wasn’t the run in with the cattle grid. It wasn’t the umpteenth spring replacement. Not even the near death experience with that crocodile shook my confidence. A nagging voice deep in the recesses, started asking the question, “Where to now?” Despite the congestion of locations on my website map, I knew I could do the entire trip again and see an entirely different Australia. But, had I seen ENOUGH?

So, it was in the midst of this ruminating, that I finally got the van into a caravan repair shop for the long delayed insurance quote. Called back a few hours later and the first thing they said was, “How much do you love your van?” Apparently the van had ‘flexed’. Now I can’t technically tell you what that means, except that there had been a separation of sorts somewhere underneath. And whilst it was repairable, the nature of the problem meant that the repair could not be guaranteed. For the NRMA this was a no-go and so my van became a repairable write-off. Which meant that I got a bunch of money and NRMA got the van, not before I had arranged to get back to Wauchope, to put my worldly goods and chattels into storage.

It took about 16 hours to empty the old girl and make some effort to get her presentable for a future auction. Even during this time my future was looking clearer and clearer. The universe had decided for me. Finally the morning arrived. Luckily, the sadness had been slowly leeching out of my system for a few weeks, and I felt so lucky and grateful that the van had been so ‘loyal’ to this quest for nearly six years.

Thank you for your support over the years. You have been my boon companions on this epic journey of this amazing and beautiful land. There were times that you were there for me and you didn’t even know it. The website will of course, live on. I’m posting on several caravan Facebook groups and it seems a bit of a reputation is building. So, I guess there’s only one thing left to say……..
